Murray teams up with Lendl for 2012

In the first major announcement of the new tennis season, Andy Murray has appointed former World No 1 Ivan Lendl as his full time coach.

Andy Murray will begin working immediately with Lendl as he prepares for the Australian Open.

"It was important to me that any new person joining my team was able to add fresh insight," said Andy Murray. "Ivan's impact on the game is unquestionable and he brings experience and knowledge that few others have, particularly in major tournaments. I look forward to working with him going forward."

Ivan Lendl is one of the most decorated players of all time. Winner of 8 Grand Slam tournaments and a 19 time Major Singles finalist, Lendl today welcomed working with Murray:

"I am really excited to have the opportunity to work with Andy. He is a unique talent and I look forward to trying to help him reach his goals."

Only 24, Andy Murray has already had a significant impact on the game of tennis. Currently World No 4, he's reached three Grand Slam Singles Finals and won 21 career titles. In 2011, he became only the seventh player in the modern era to reach the Semi Finals of all 4 Grand Slam Singles tournaments. 2012 marks an important year for Murray with the Olympics in his home nation.

Simon Fuller, XIX Entertainment, Andy's manager and business partner said: "Andy's achievements in 2011 have demonstrated the quality of his game. Having a champion like Lendl join his team will help him achieve his ultimate ambitions."
