Jerry Solomon Profile: Bringing Tennis to the World
Former world number one Ivan Lendl is famous for many things. Being one of John McEnroe's least favorite opponents, keeping sawdust in his pocket to dry his racket grips and often seeming to pull out his eyelashes between points are just a few.
One thing he never became famous for, unlike his countrywoman Martina Navratilova, was defecting from Czechoslovakia. This was at least in part down to the efforts of Jerry Solomon, who spent part of his early career in tennis deflecting questions from the press about future world No.1 Mr. Lendl's possible defection.
Mr. Solomon dedicated himself to furthering the careers of several tennis players besides Mr. Lendl and bringing tennis and other sports to a wider audience through numerous high profile events and ventures. He is today founder and chief executive of sports marketing and events management firm, StarGames, as well as being the man responsible for bringing professional tennis back to the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York...
