Q&A with Nancy

Q: Hi Nancy, I saw your show on CN8 and I have a question. I have been noticing the men figure skaters perform more in terms of facial expression and communicating with the audience. They actually "get into a character and into the music." It seems as though the women don't do that nearly as much as of late. The men's competition is where it's at this year. Do you agree with the higher level of performances with the men versus the women this year? Could music choices play a huge part in performance and if so, do you find the women "play it safe" with using the same classical music over and over again. The men, it seems, hardly ever use the same music. ~ A.L.

A: Certainly U.S. skating is witnessing two of the top male skaters in quite some time. They push themselves every year to get better which is great. On the women's side, we see a lot of younger girls who are still developing. The feeling and interaction with the music comes with maturity... they will get there!

Following the 1994 Olympics, Kerrigan turned her attention to exhibitions, shows and corporate endorsements. Nancy toured for ten years with Champions on Ice; performed in dozens of live and made for television shows including Disney's Dreams on Ice, Feld Entertainment's Grease on Ice, StarGames' production of Footloose on Ice and her own show, Halloween on Ice. Kerrigan also authored two books on skating including Artistry on Ice, an instructional work published by Human Kinetics and currently hosts her own television show "Nancy Kerrigan's World of Skating" on Comcast CN8.

Nancy's dedication to charitable work off the ice is just as eye-opening as are her performances on the ice. In 1999 she established the Nancy Kerrigan Foundation, in honor of her mother, to help non-profit organizations that support the vision impaired and in 2007 she was named a national spokesperson for the Foundation Fighting Blindness. In addition, Nancy also has been an active fundraiser for Campaign SightFirst and has participated in such benefit ice events as An Evening of Championship Skating, Kraft Dreams On Ice, Skate Against Hate and Stars, Stripes & Skates.

In 2001, Nancy was voted Outstanding Mother of the Year by the National Mother's Day Committee and also received the prestigious Henry Iba Award. More recently, in addition to her role as wife and mother of two, Kerrigan appeared in the 2006 FOX television program "Skating with Celebrities", served as a correspondent for "The Insider" at the Torin Winter Olympics and shot a cameo appearance in the  movie "Blades of Glory" featuring Will Ferrell.
